A rally in the eighth inning from the visiting Sylvan Lake Gulls ended the chance for the Weyburn Beavers to end their losing streak Friday night. The Gulls scored seven runs in the inning, overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the process. Sylvan Lake went on to hold off a rally from the Beavers to win 8-7.
Weyburn would collect 14 hits during the game, with Blaine French notching two doubles. Patryk Hernandez and Will Baker also had doubles in the game. Braeden Cordes, French, Ryan Dauphinee, and Hernandez drove in one run each, with Will Baker knocking in two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
On the mound, Josh Wintroub went seven innings for the Beavers, striking out nine, and allowing one run on five hits. Ben Franz would take over in the seventh, and would only get one out before being replaced by David Dawson. Franz had allowed three runs on one hit, while Dawson allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits.
Matthew Armendariz closed out the game for the Beavers, striking out one.
The Beavers will be back in action Saturday night when they host the Gulls for a rematch at Tom Laing Park. The first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
