It was a rough weekend for the Weyburn Beavers as they had their first road trip of the season. They were in Medicine Hat for a pair of games and came out on the short end of the scoreboard in both match-ups. Saturday, they fell 10-2, while Sunday was a 14-6 loss.
In the game Saturday, the Mavericks would put up nine runs in the middle three innings, then held off the Beavers to preserve the victory. Weyburn was limited to just five hits in the loss.
Mason Chamberlain was tagged with the loss on the mound.
Sunday afternoon, the two teams met again, and the Beavers would build up a 6-1 lead by the end of the fourth inning. Caelen Dalman had a pair of RBIs, with Blaine French, Ryan Dauphinee, Travis Moore and Will Baker driving in runs.
Baker’s run came as a home run, his first of the year.
Then, Medicine Hat came roaring back.
In the fifth inning they would put up four runs, and another eight in the sixth to jump out to a 13-6 lead. They added one more run in the eighth inning.
Jace Wessels was credited with the loss on the mound.
The Beavers will look to bounce back Tuesday night when they host the Regina Red Sox at Tom Laing Park.
