The Weyburn Beavers collected 19 hits, eight doubles, 11 RBI and 14 runs, but it wasn’t enough to outlast the Swift Current 57s Thursday night. In a 12-inning marathon game, the 57s would come away with a 15-14 victory.
The pitching staff for the Beavers combined for 15 strikeouts and 10 walks over the course of the game, with all 15 runs allowed being earned.
Over the course of the game, Nolan Machibroda, Koby Kropf, Caelen Dalman and Will Baker chipped in two RBI each, with Machibroda also hitting four doubles. The other RBIs came from Blaine French, Ryan Dauphinee and Patryk Hernandez.
Kropf also had two doubles in the game, with Baker and Cordes also hitting a double.
On the mound, starter Josh Wintroub went 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, while striking out five. Ben Franz pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief, striking out three and allowing two runs. David Dawson came on for three innings, striking out four while giving up five runs. The final 1 2/3 innings were pitched by Luke Zimmer, and he struck out three while allowing two runs.
The Beavers are back in action Friday as they play two games in two cities. They are in Regina for a matinee game against the Red Sox. Then, immediately after that game, they will hop on the bus and head for Moose Jaw for an evening matchup with the Miller Express.
