The Manitoba Sunflower Festival in Altona is still a couple weeks away, happening July 22nd to 24th, which means there’s still time to enter a team into the Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services fire truck pull happening that weekend, Saturday afternoon at 1pm to be exact long 10th Avenue NW, just outside Altona Park's entrance!
Firefighter/Chaplain, and event organizer Richard Bage, chatted with Reporter Candace Derksen about the fundraiser that’s all about the community flexing its muscles for a good cause. You can listen to that conversation below.
Teams of six are required, and there is a $150/team entry fee. All money raised goes to the Manitoba Fallen Fighter Memorial. Teams will be pulling a Tanker truck weighing about 29,000 LBs, so this will be a fun event to come and see.
It will be an 18 team single elimination tournament, with prizes for the top teams.
"We have reached out to other fire departments in our mutual aid district to bring a team," said Bage. "We have also contacted local businesses about having employee teams. We are looking to fill the remaining spots with locals. Make a team up of friends, your softball team or curling buddies."
