The SJHL released the schedule for the 2022-23 season Monday morning. This year, the league is moving from a 58-game season to a 56-game schedule.
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will open the season on September 16th on the road, travelling to Melville for a game against the Millionaires. The team will then be in Yorkton on September 21st before they play their home opener on September 23rd when the Estevan Bruins come to town.
This year will see the Red Wings and Bruins play each other six times. This is a change from previous seasons, where the teams would go head-to-head 10 times.
The final game before the Christmas break will be on December 17th in Humboldt, and then the Wings will be back on the ice on January 6th when they visit the Bruins. This year the two teams will not play each other in a home-and-home over New Years.
The schedule also includes two seven-game homestands. The first is from November 25th to December 16th. The second homestand will be from January 24th to February 11th.
There are a few other quirks to the schedule this year. The Red Wings will play the Battlefords North Stars and the Flin Flon Bombers five times each, as opposed to four times as in previous seasons. The Red Wings also take on the Kindersley Klippers six times – three times in Weyburn, and three times in Kindersley.
