The Weyburn Beavers were looking to make it two wins in a row Wednesday night as the Moose Jaw Miller Express came to town. The Miller Express, though, were hoping to keep their winning streak intact. It would be the visitors coming out on top, with a rally in the seventh inning that helped lift them to a 7-1 victory.
Weyburn did take the early lead in the game when Koby Kropf took a pitch from Moose Jaw starter Tristan Seitz and sent it over the fence in centre field to make it 1-0 in the first inning. From there, the defences took over for both teams, but then Moose Jaw would grab the lead in the sixth inning.
Then, the seventh inning had Moose Jaw score five runs to take command of the game, and then they used the bullpen, and three different pitchers for the final three innings, to hold the bats of the Beavers at bay.
Jace Wessels was tagged with the loss on the mound after 5 2/3 innings of work. Ben Franz pitched a complete inning, and Anthony Portacello pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, striking out five.
The Beavers will be back in action Thursday night, as they travel to Regina to take on the Red Sox. The next home game is Friday, with Moose Jaw back in town.
