The Weyburn Beavers were looking to bounce back from their loss Wednesday night as they took the field in Regina against the Red Sox Thursday. The Red Sox would capitalize on a seven-run inning, though, and kept the bats of the Beavers at bay en route to a 12-1 victory.

Braeden Cordes would be responsible for the lone run for the Beavers, as he hit a double to left field that cashed in Will Baker in the third inning. By that time, though, the damage had already been done as Regina scored seven runs in the second inning of the game.

Josh Wintroub had a rare shaky start, as he gave up nine runs, seven of them earned, in four innings of work. He struck out six batters as well while walking one and allowing ten hits.

Mason Chamberlain pitched the final four innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out two.

The Beavers are 9-27, and are currently fifth in the WCBL’s East Division. However, they are not yet out of the chase for a playoff spot. They are four games back of the Medicine Hat Mavericks, who are 13-23. With 20 games left to play in the regular season, the Beavers could make a push to move into a playoff spot with a little help. They will also be playing four more games against the Mavericks over the remainder of the season, including a game Saturday night at Tom Laing Park.
