The Weyburn Beavers played host to the Swift Current 57s Thursday night for a doubleheader, making up a game that had been cancelled by the rain back at the beginning of the season. This game was originally scheduled to be played Tuesday night, but field conditions bumped it to Wednesday.
The Beavers would run into strong defence in both games and be held off the scoreboard, falling 2-0 in the first game of the day, and 7-0 in the second.
The first game had shaped up to be a pitcher's duel, with Josh Wintroub from the Beavers getting the start. He would go four innings, striking out eight and giving up one run on three hits. He was followed by Jared Miller, who struck out three in three innings of work, and allowed one run on three hits.
The Beavers had trouble getting anything going against 57s pitcher Kenny Jinks. He would go the distance, striking out ten in seven innings of work, allowing just five hits.
The second game saw Weyburn up against a red hot pitcher in Izaiah Ayala. The pitcher from Diamond Bar, California would go the distance on the mound to pick up the no-hitter against the Beavers. He would finish the game with 13 strikeouts, and only allowing two baserunners via walk.
On the mound, Weyburn had Ryan Jundt get the start. He would go five innings and allowed two runs before he was replaced on the mound by Anthony Porcellato. Porcellato would finish off the game, giving up five runs in two innings.
The Beavers will now be off to Swift Current for a game Thursday against the 57s, and then a game Friday in Medicine Hat, before the All-Star Game, which is slated for Saturday in Okotoks.
