A sixth person has announced they are running for Kenora City Council this fall.
Chris Poate has officially submitted his documents to be in the next municipal election. Poate is now the sixth candidate running for one of the six seats on Council.
Poate has spent his life creating a family in Kenora, contributing as an entrepreneur and serving as an active member of the community, both with organizations and the religious community.
The candidate started his carpentry contracting business in 1977. He has been interested in running for Council since the amalgamation of the three communities but never thought he could give the job the time it deserved, now he says “I know that at this point in my life I can devote the time required and I am still strong enough to put in the effort needed to successfully complete a 4-year term.”
He has leadership experience having served as the Director of the Kenora and District Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce, and Director of the Kenora Construction Association.
Poate has also maintained leadership roles in church organizations. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Kenora.
If elected, Poate feels as though he could help continue the progressive direction of Mayor and Council, help encourage the success of local businesses, and help navigate the ever-hardening economy.
The next election is set for October 24, 2022. The last day to file a nomination is Friday, August 19, 2022, by 2 p.m.
