Rickford offers his thoughts on expanded vaccine eligibility.
Health Canada recently approved the use of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for children ages six months to 5 years, however, our region is yet to see said vaccines.
The Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) says that they are waiting for the go-ahead from Ontario’s Ministry of Health as they are currently developing guidelines.
During an interview with the QMorning show, MPP Greg Rickford took the time to offer his thoughts on the updated vaccine eligibility.
“I think it is exciting news for parents who make that choice,” said Rickford.
When asked if he knew when the region would be able to begin booking vaccine appointments for their children, he stated that July 28, is the date.
“The approval of a lower dose Moderna vaccine is going to give families the opportunity to provide an additional layer of protection against COVID-19. It brings the whole family into play should parents decide to make that choice.”
“I am fully vaccinated and so is our family so you know, it helps us stay on top of things,” he concluded.
The Moderna pediatric vaccine is one-quarter of the size of the dose approved for adults. The vaccine requires two doses given about four weeks apart.
