Users of the Kenora Airport are warned of construction work this summer that may impact flights and cause delays.

The Kenora Airport Authority says the length of the airport’s runway will be shortened until September 10 during the work, and it’ll be completely closed between September 10 and September 30.

All users are asked to give the airport and Nav Canada’s Flight Services Station as much notice as possible for any arrivals and departures this summer, as the runway will take time to clear away any construction equipment.

Phase one of the work began on July 18 and is set to continue until August 16. The second phase of work is scheduled for August 17 to September 9, with the third phase and closure of the runway set for September 10 to September 30.

The airport apologizes for the inconvenience this will cause, but say it’s necessary as they work to update and enhance their infrastructure and operations. Staff note a mask is still mandatory when entering the terminal, according to Transport Canada’s and their own policies.

The airport received $509,886 in funding through FedNor in March, 2022 to implement new modernization features and to purchase new equipment.
