The City of Portage la Prairie announced today via Twitter that its water main flushing program is seeing some unexpected challenges.
The sixth week of the eight-week program (Royal Rd to Westco Dr north side of tracks) was expected to start on July 31st and conclude on August 5th. However, according to the manager of public works, Brian Taylor, those dates are now voided with the unusual amount of sewer breaks in Portage in the last week and a half.
"At the tail end of last week, we had to shut down the flushing program for week five, and now we're thinking it will probably take another two or three nights this week to get caught up. We had to bring our night staff in to help with the breaks during the day here."
Taylor notes that once they get the go-ahead to continue the program, they will finish up week five and then start week six.
The remaining part of the schedule for the program now reads as:
Week #5 – (not yet finished)
15th St NW to Tupper St NW north side of tracks
Week #6 – TBA
Royal Rd to Westco Dr north side of tracks
Week #7 – TBA
Koko Platz and Island Park Areas
Week #8 – TBA
Mellenville and Old Bridge Road Area
The 2022 Water Main Flushing Program has been paused temporarily and Week #6 - Royal Rd to Westco Dr north side of tracks will not take place this week. We will provide an updated schedule once the program has resumed. https://t.co/QWcdzJRmzV
