In Kenora Slo Pitch Action, Northern Harbour took out Dunnit 18 to 6, while Bob’s Burgers beat out CUPE 21 to 11.

Hockey Northwestern Ontario has named Kenora’s Lucas Pavey as their Most Promising Official. Pavey’s a 16-year-old Level 1 official who joined the program in 2018.

“Lucas took to officiating right away and looked very natural with his signals, his confidence, and his communication skills right from his first game,” wrote Hockey Northwestern Ontario, in a prepared release.

“He is always willing to step up to take any game assignments and has also assisted in recruiting new officials in Kenora. His desire to improve each game and willingness to learn from his senior partners has made Lucas one of the younger officials with a huge upside as he continues to climb the officiating ladder with HNO.”

The Toronto Blue Jays hand the ball to lefty Yusei Kikuchi today as they aim to sweep the two-game series with the Rays. The Jays have won 11 of the last 13 and increased their lead over Tampa Bay to 4 games for the top A-L wild-card spot.

The Calgary Flames have re-signed forward Andrew Mangiapane to a three-year contract worth 17.4-million-dollars. The five-foot-10 Mangiapane set career-highs in goals with 35, assists with 20 and points with 55 during the 2021-22 NHL season. The winger finished the season with the fourth-most goals on the Flames and tied for the sixth most road goals in the NHL with 23.

Canada's team will continue preparations today in Calgary for the 2.0 edition of the 2022 world junior men's hockey championship in Edmonton. Canada's first game in the August 9th to 20th championship is August 10th against Latvia. The initial 2022 championship in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alta., was called off December 29th after just four days because of rising COVID-19 cases.
