To recognize the very first official Alberta Day, the Alberta Government will be hosting free public events across the province from September 1 to September 3.
Around the area, there will be an event taking place in Prince Island Park in Calgary. There will be a concert during the event featuring Alberta talent, a made-in-Alberta marketplace featuring Albertans' work and celebrating all the province has to offer, and some Kid-friendly entertainment, including cultural workshops and hands-on activities to make sure Alberta Day is fun for the whole family.
“Alberta Day is a new annual tradition for this province, and a chance to celebrate who we are, take stock of where we came from and show pride in what we’ve achieved together. This Alberta Day weekend, join some of the amazing celebrations we have planned to tell Alberta’s story,” says Alberta Premier Jason Kenney.
Ron Orr, the Minister of Culture, said this about Alberta Day, “With world-class musical talent, delicious food, vibrant multicultural and Indigenous heritage, and strong community spirit, Alberta is an incredible place to call home. This Alberta Day, we are showing off what makes this province so unique and giving every Albertan a chance to celebrate our past, present and potential”.
There will also be funding provided by the government for municipalities to host events for their communities on September 3. The funding is as follows:

Municipalities with populations greater than 10,000 are eligible for up to $10,000.

Municipalities with populations between 1,000 and 10,000 are eligible for up to $5,000.

Municipalities with populations less than 1,000 are eligible for $1,500.
The Alberta Municipalities Association has shared information with municipalities, including the application forms and event ideas to celebrate Alberta Day.
The deadline to submit an expression of interest for funding is August 8.
