Kenora residents can meet the myth in person.

Goaty, northwestern Ontario’s famous goat, will be at Pet Valu at 5 Chipman Street this Sunday as its caretaker, Amy Mosionier, hosts a fundraising barbecue to bring Goaty to a new home.

Mosionier says the barbecue will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Pet Valu’s parking lot, and all funds raised will be donated to Goaty’s GoFundMe campaign to bring him to the Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary near London, Ontario.

Q104 and KenoraOnline broke Goaty’s story July 18, after a resident returned home to find a friendly goat at her front door. Goaty had made its way from Naotkamegwanning First Nation since June 12 and had been spotted in downtown Kenora, but was eventually brought to Mosionier’s farm.

After a potential ‘goatnapping’, Goaty was brought to Lac Lu for a few days, but the decision has been made that the Cedar Row Sanctuary will be the safest place for him. The GoFundMe campaign has a goal of $2,500, and as of writing, has reached over $650.

This Sunday’s barbecue will feature a 50/50 draw, as well as cake, hamburgers and hotdogs for $5 a plate. Local sponsors include Pet Valu, Travelodge, Days Inn, No Frills, Home Hardware and Safeway.

Mosionier is also seeking a handyman or a carpenter to help build a wooden crate for Goaty to travel on an airplane.
