Helmuth Rubin John Dietrich
May 11, 1934 - July 20, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Helmuth Rubin John Dietrich announce his passing.  (Hal) departed on his next journey on July 20, 2022 at the age of 88.

Born May 11, 1934 in McNutt, Saskatchewan, into a large family of 11 siblings, and being farm raised, he learned and shared the meaning of unity, patience, courage, caring and hard work.

One of his first jobs (when old enough) was working in a winter logging camp.  That season of worked produced earnings that were given to his family for much needed farm equipment.

Hal started his courtship (with determination we are told) with his first and only love, Lorraine, from many towns away.

In 1956 they married, lived and worked in Swift Current and Winnipeg before settling in Kenora, eventually over the years becoming owner operations of multiple motels.

One piece of property Hal held dear to his heart was an Island property they purchased in 1980.  (HAMM Bay) was their summer residence, making lifelong friendships and many joyful memories with the camp owners around them.

Hal served with the Kenora Kinsmen society, volunteered at the Land Ambulance and sponsored Kenora Minor Hockey.  He and his family were members of the Lutheran Church.

“I used to love when Dad played guitar and sang (mostly because it was rare).  Driving his golf cart around Florida, being a keen cribbage player and the concept of Happy Hour before special suppers to talk, unrushed, is always remembered.”

Lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Lorraine, son Richard (Sandra), daughter Sheri-Lee Rumph (Jamie), grandchildren Mitchell, Kristi (Charlie), Elias and Caitlyn, great granddaughters Blakely and Halle, and many siblings and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Adolf and Hedwig.

Special thanks to the staff and medical team at Pinecrest Home.

No service is planned at this time, with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.

If one so desires, donations to a charity if one’s choice, in lieu of flowers is appreciated.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the Dietrich family.
