Team Saskatchewan's boys baseball team, which has strong representation from the southeast, is enjoying some early success at the Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ontario.

After dropping their first game to Ontario, the boys team has rattled off three straight wins, including lopsided victories over Nova Scotia and BC before a tight, hard-fought 5-4 win over the same Ontario team.

Team Saskatchewan sits at 3-1 heading into a game Tuesday evening against Nova Scotia. They'll conclude the preliminary round Wednesday afternoon against BC.

"I think everybody's pretty happy with where they're at," said Blair Beck, who is in Niagara watching his son Carter play in the tournament. "The first game...it was a closer game than the score indicated. And then the next three games the boys have played really well."

Carter Beck, along with Sutter Balog and Callum Hollinger, all play for the South East Twins and are also all suiting up in green and white this week at the games.

Blair Beck, who coaches with the Twins, said Carter has had a strong showing so far in Ontario after a phenomenal year in Triple A.

"He's been in the lineup every game batting second, he's had a really good start," said Beck, adding that Carter has chipped in with a few extra base hits as well.

Saskatchewan is the defending champion in boys baseball, having won the gold medal at the last Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg in 2017, when they beat the host Manitoba team in the finals.

Blair Beck thinks this year's group has a chance to repeat.

"I think they do have a chance, they've been playing really well. They've got good pitching, and their hitting has been really strong," said Beck. "And their coaching staff has tons of experience having success in this tournament. So yeah, it's exciting stuff."
