Jorja Beck represented Milestone 4-H Variety Club over the weekend in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park for the Provincial 4-H Judging. There were 35 competitors from around Saskatchewan that took part in the 2-day event. Jorja came home to Milestone with a Top 12 placing, Beck explains, “I was high point beef heifers judge and high point water quality judge and fourth place overall.”
The days were packed with written work, activities and judging shares Beck, “We judged alpacas, beef steers, beef heifers, dairy heifers, and sheep. We do a placing chart and we talk to the judge about why we placed certain animals the way we did.”
It’s been a long time coming to qualify for Nationals explains Beck, “I started when I was 6 and it was always a program my older siblings and cousins did. I always wanted to show a steer and it just seemed interesting to me. I have been judging since a young age and when we do Regional Judging at the fair and I usually participate, so I did this year and I was old enough to move on from Regional Judging to Provincials.
Jorja isn’t done competing yet, she will be preparing for November in Regina. “Now I move onto the judging at Agribition. It’s the National 4-H Youth Competition. I’ll be there Monday and Tuesday judging,” says Beck.
