The councillor race in Kenora is heating up.

Retired OPP Officer Bob Bernie is the latest to join the race to form Kenora's next City Council.

At the time of publishing, 11 residents are vying for six seats on council and it looks like a number of fresh faces will form City Council in the fall.

Of the 11 in the running only one, Graham Chaze, is currently on council. Chaze was appointed to council on July 13, 2022 to fill the seat vacated by outgoing Councillor Kirsi Ralko. Chaze was the runner-up in the last municipal election.

Graham Chaze, Lindsay Koch, Kelsie Van Belleghem, Mark LaBelle, Cecile Marcino, Chris Poate, Louis Roussin, Logan Haney, Barbara Manson, Joel McGrath and Bob Bernie are running for council.

Andrew Poirier, Andy Scribilo and David Byers-Kitt are all running to be Kenora's next mayor. Current Mayor Daniel Reynard told KenoraOnline in December 2021 that he intended on seeking re-election but hasn't filled his papers yet.

The next election is set for October 24, 2022. The last day to file a nomination is Friday, August 19, 2022, by 2 p.m.
