Within a week, RCMP's Traffic Services Roving Patrol unit held two separate traffic stops, which concluded with the seizure of large amounts of cash and drugs.
Police say on July 28, 2022, at approximately 2:25 p.m., a man was pulled over in the RM of Portage la Prairie after an officer caught him speeding. An investigation led to the arrest of the 23-year-old man from Calgary, Alberta. He had a warrant for his arrest from BC.
After he was arrested without incident, the RCMP searched his car and found $28,000 in cash. He was held in custody and then returned to BC to face previous charges. He was released on the Manitoba charge of Possession of Proceeds of Crime for a court date scheduled for October 18, 2022, in Portage.
Police also say on August 4, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., an officer on patrol in the RM of North Norfolk also stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 1. The following investigation led to the 23-year-old male from Brampton, Ontario, being arrested under the Excise Act, with the officer finding four kilograms of a substance believed to be opium during the subsequent search.
Ritesh Gupta was remanded into custody and later released for a future court date on a charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
