Money raised from an 11km walk, run or bike event this Saturday (August 13th) will support families in two communities across the world from each other.

Half of the proceeds of the Good Double Blessing event, hosted by the Love Well Women's Drop-in Centre in Altona, will benefit the Community Transformation Foundation, a Canadian charity that supports Hijos de Dios Community Centre in Guatemala that helps support women who face abuse and prejudice. The other half will go to the Love Well Drop-in Centre.

Nadine Klassen is a director on the Board for the drop-in centre, and a missionary with the Guatemalan centre where volunteers try to provide access to counselling, nutrition, education and legal resources.

"This one young mom that we're working with, she didn't know how to read or write, so she's actually learning that right now," explained Klassen. "She's (also) learning how to make her own business. This has just built up her confidence." The women's two children are also accessing special needs and nutritional programing through at centre.

The commonality between the two centres is that relationships are being built with the women in each community.

"At the Love Well Centre...we don't provide counselling per say, but we provide mentorship and we have resources that we can reach out that can help," said Klassen. "The main goal is to mentor women, build relationships and provide a strong community."
