On the ladies' side, it was the Devils Gap Chiefs that took down Dunit Contracting 21-16, despite an out-of-the-park home run by Dunit's Lexi Cameron. Northern Harbour took down the Royals 34-17 with Megan Derouard contributing two home runs. The Neniska Crushers took down the Strykers 18-12 and Bat Intentions defeated CUPE 9-6.
Kenora Swimming Shark Emilia Mastromatteo is off to McGill University in Montreal. The swimmer will be attending through an athletic scholarship where she will study biomedical sciences. She says her proudest moment as a swimmer for the Sharks was building important relationships with younger swimmers in the program as a coach.
They're down to the final eight at the world junior hockey championship in Edmonton. That number will be chopped in half after a full day of quarterfinal action tomorrow. Finland will play Germany at 11:00am, Sweden plays Latvia at 2:30pm., host Canada battles Switzerland at 6:00pm, followed by the United States and Czechia at 9:30pm.
The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping that right-handed ace Alex Manoah (mah-NOH'-ah) can inject some spark into the slumping team's lineup when it plays the Baltimore Orioles tonight. The Orioles, in Toronto for a three-game series, cashed in on the Jays' poor pitching and sloppy defence last night to register a 7-3 victory and move closer to an A-L wild-card berth.
