Harvest has started in the western half of southeast Saskatchewan, according to the latest crop report from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture.
During the week of August 9 to 15, some parts of the region had ideal harvesting conditions, while others had humid, rainy weather.
Most of the region is still not ready for harvest due to crop maturity being behind normal, but the recent hot weather has allowed crops to begin to turn more quickly.
The harvest progress for the region is at two percent, which is behind the five-year average of nine percent. Most of the crop that has been harvested are lentils, field peas, and winter cereals. 33 percent of the winter wheat, 10 percent of the fall rye, eight percent of field peas, and five percent of lentils have been combined in the region so far this year.
Most crop damage from the past week was caused by thunderstorms bringing strong winds and heavy rains.
