Nazem Kadri is the newest Calgary Flame in what's been a wild off-season for the team. Kadri, who won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche this past season, signed a seven-year, 49 million-dollar (US) deal with the Flames yesterday. Calgary sent Sean Monahan and a conditional 2025 first-round pick to the Montreal Canadiens in order to create room for Kadri.
Canada's world junior hockey team will be going head-to-head with Czechia today in hopes of a berth into the tournament final. The Czech team upset the reigning champion Americans 4-2 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Canada defeated the Czechs 5-1 in the preliminary round. Finland will take on Sweden in the other semifinal.
The Toronto Blue Jays are set to take on the New York Yankees in the second of a four-game series on the road tonight. Toronto won 9-2 yesterday, one night after snapping a three-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Kevin Gausman will take the mound for the Blue Jays.
