The Internal Investigations Unit (IIU) is investigating an alleged assault by an on-service Manitoba First Nation Police Service (MFNP) officer.
IIU says on August 16th, the MFNP reported an incident to them which took place earlier that day.
According to the report, a woman was in custody at the MFNP cells when she became aggressive, which led to the police needing to use force to secure her. During this time, she sustained a cut to her head and was transported to the Portage General Hospital, then released back into custody after being treated.
The IIU civilian director has deemed it to be in the public's best interest for an investigation to take place.
Anyone with information regarding this event is asked to call the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
