The first-ever Alberta Day is quickly approaching and locals are getting excited about it.

Trudy Eyre, an Airdrie resident, touched on why Alberta Day is important to her and many others

“It’s important to me because of our heritage. We have so much going for us here. There’s a day for everything during the year but no Alberta Day."

Eyre added that most people don’t know that Alberta was actually a part of the North West Territories up until 1905 when Saskatchewan and Alberta split off to become independent.

“It’s important for everyone to get involved, to see and learn about Alberta,” Eyre added.

The City of Airdrie will be hosting a variety of events including, on September 3 from 8:30 A.M. to 3 P.M. at Nose Creek Valley Museum. Free activities include all-day museum access, a pancake breakfast, live music, historic storytelling, elder teachings and children's activities.

This won’t be the only festival Airdrie is hosting soon though as they will also be hosting a free Homecoming Festival to welcome back the community and show appreciation for the vital services, first responders, and neighbourhood businesses on October 1 as well.
