The Manitoba RCMP released its monthly report for July showing calls for service in the West District, which includes Portage la Prairie, is up 1 per cent from July of last year, numbering from 5,408 to 5,481 calls. 

Our district saw decreases in Crimes against Person and Common Police Activities while increases were reported in Crimes Against Property and Drug Enforcement, over the same period in 2021.  Common Police Activities went down from 675 to 655, whereas there was a significant decrease of 19 per cent - 294 to 237 - in Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Property. The West District had the largest increase in Persons reported Missing - up 38 per cent, from 56 to 77.

Crimes against the Person was down 13 per cent, and the largest decrease was with Robbery/Extortion/Harassment/Threats putting it down 25 per cent, or from 106 to 80 occurrences.

Crimes against Property also saw a large increase with a 20 per cent overall figure, going from 687 to 822. Theft over $5,000 increased 62 per cent and Theft under $5,000 increased 61 per cent.

In the Drug Enforcement category, Trafficking went up 22 per cent, Possession was up 20 per cent, and Production was down 100 per cent, numbering from 3 to 0 incidents.
