Bruce Robert, global membership team chairman for the district of 5M-13, says the Morden Roaring Lions club currently has nine members and will operate as a branch club of the Crystal City Lions until they get the required 20 members. The Morden Roaring Leos (youth) club currently has 10 members and growing.

Robert talked about what the clubs have to offer.

"When it comes to working together, I think that it's important because what it does is showcase your community and it just shows people that it can be done. That we can come together for the betterment of our communities and just to come together to work on projects. Anyone new coming in to our community knows how much we care about our community and that the commitment of people working together makes it more awesome for sure."

Sachin Jain was elected President of the Roaring Morden Lions. He shared why he joined the club.

"Since I was a small child, I've seen the Roaring Lions emblem. I come from India, and over there I have seen this club in almost all the cities. When I saw on Facebook there's an opportunity to join this club, I had no second thoughts, I just thought of going to the meeting and then it all just happened."

Jain's daughter, Riya was elected as the president of the Roaring Leos, she is inspired by the Leo motto of "Leadership, Experience, Opportunity."

"I wanted to become the President because I didn't want to miss the opportunity to develop skills as a leader in the future, and I wanted to manage my team and take it to higher grounds in service, as much as possible, with kindness."

She added, "My future plans as a Leo are to spread awareness all around the community in Morden, to fundraise for events and to generate it for charity. I can see the leaves becoming strong in the future and finally turning into a Lion after serving as Alpha Leo's."

Former Morden Lion and retired teacher Jim Robson will serve as the Leo Advisor to guide them as they develop this new club for teens.

Robert says the Lions and Leos clubs will be helping out with the Morden Corn and Apple Festival later this month.

He notes all funds raised by the clubs stay in the community. Some of the causes being supported include childhood cancer, hunger, the environment, diabetes, and vision.

Sachin said his first goal is to bring the membership up to make the Morden branch its own club to help reach these goals.  Riya also encouraged Morden youth to join to gain experience and to give back to the community.
