After torrential rainfall on August 26th forced the evacuation of residents and staff from Eden Mental Health Centre in Winkler, team members and government health officials responded by setting up temporary sites in Salem Home and one of the Centre's homes.
CEO Brad Unger says at this point, they are focusing on safe patient care in those sites.
"And in the meantime, we're doing a lot of assessments with our building. We should have a good idea of that by the end of this week. We'll go through all the steps necessary to make our space available for patient care again as soon as possible. We hope that's going to be just within several weeks from now that we have an opportunity to use at least a partial access to our building."
Unger says specialized acute psychiatric care services are impacted by this situation, but residents of southern Manitoba are able to access Eden's services through their local emergency department.
All out-patient and other psychiatric services continue to be available.
"We are trying to move as fast as we can and as safely as we can," adds Unger. "We will keep everyone updated as we are able to firm up timelines."
