Marie Magdelena Meyers
January 4, 1939 – September 2, 2022
The death of Marie Magdelena (née Muenichshofer) Meyers occurred at the Humboldt District Hospital in Humboldt, SK, on Friday, September 2nd, 2022. She was 83 years of age. Marie was born on January 4, 1939, at the Cudworth Hospital, Cudworth, SK, to her parents Alois and Lillian (née Ollerich) Muenichshofer. She grew up and helped on the family farm close to Middle Lake, SK, and attended Wilfred School. Growing up, Marie excelled at household chores such as cooking and baking but was equally proficient milking cows, riding bareback or working beside her father in the fields and in the barn. While working on the farm, Marie developed a passion for gardening. Many would consult her on the best time to plant, trim or weed in the garden and the fields. As a young woman, Marie not only helped her family on the farm but also worked as a nanny and housekeeper. Marie met Lawrence Meyers in August of 1958, and by October 22nd of that same year they were married and went on to welcome five children, three daughters and two sons. Together the couple worked as partners in a gravelling outfit, service station, farming, caterpillar work and mail delivery. To this day, Marie is fondly remembered as “The Mail Lady”. Marie and Lawrence both enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends. After retirement, they took many trips to Alberta to spend as much time as possible with their children and grandchildren. Marie absolutely loved each one of her children, and with that said, her five grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy, and more recently, her three great-grandchildren. If you ran into Marie, she would pull photos and her iPad from her purse to show pictures of the family she so loved. Marie was a master seamstress, making much of her own clothing, her wedding dress included. She was an avid knitter, loved to crochet and enjoyed reading. There is many a kitchen of family and friends with her knitted dish cloths and many feet kept warm by her knitted crazy socks. Marie will be lovingly remembered by her children and their families: Audrey Griffin (Bryan Doell) of Winnipeg, MB, and Lindsey Griffin (Mark Gruszczynski) and Petra, of Edmonton, AB; Hal (Susan) Meyers of Humboldt, SK, and Amanda Meyers of Humboldt, Ashley Meyers of Cochran, AB, and Megan Meyers (Chris Mann) and Ford and Kenslee of Saskatoon, SK; Wendy (David) Taylor, and Christopher Meyers of Victoria, BC; and Gwen Semrow (Bradley Cole) of Linden, MI, step-daughters Kelci Semrow of Port Huron, MI, and Taylor Semrow (fiancé Jason Spencer) of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI; Marie’s sister, Loretta Olynuk of Middle Lake, SK; sister-in-law Laverne Minisofer of Saskatoon, SK; and by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
