Members of the OPP have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of an infant in Long Lake #58 First Nation.
The Greenstone OPP says on September 5, officers and paramedics with Superior North EMS responded to a report of an unresponsive infant at a Long Lake First Nation residence.
Despite life-saving efforts, the infant was pronounced deceased. A post-mortem examination is scheduled later this week to determine their cause of death. The infant’s name was withheld by police.
The investigation by the OPP is continuing, and anyone with any information is asked to contact them immediately at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
Long Lake #58 First Nation is located just west of Longlac off of Highway 11 and north of Nipigon. It has a reported on-reserve population of about 500 community members.
