The Northwestern Health Unit has declared the COVID-19 outbreak affecting one unit within Kenora’s Pinecrest Home for the Aged over after no new positive tests were found over the weekend.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for their hard work and dedication, not only during the outbreak, but each and every day. We would also like to the residents and families for all their support,” says Pinecrest leadership, in a prepared statement.
The COVID-19 outbreak in Unit 1 was declared on August 22 after one resident was found to have COVID-19 symptoms and later tested positive, and two additional asymptomatic positives were found after additional testing throughout the unit.
Pinecrest says effective immediately, visiting guidelines for all units are as follows:
- Four designated essential caregivers per resident,
- Children 0 to 18 years of age may visit with an essential caregiver, without being on the caregiver list
- Children 5 to 18 years of age must be fully vaccinated with a minimum of two doses,
- Four individuals may visit at one time (ex. 1 caregiver and 3 children)
- Surveillance testing will be required prior to each visit for anyone aged 2 or older,
- Social day absences and overnight absences are permitted,
However, Pinecrest reminds residents that a resident must have a PCR or Rapid Antigen Test on days 5 and 6 following their absence, as per guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The resident will not be required to isolate unless they have a known exposure to the virus while on their absence.
Pinecrest is also reminding the public to always wear a mask around their residents at all times. In Ontario, masks are still considered mandatory in long-term care and retirement homes.
