The tall tale of northwestern Ontario’s travelling goat - Goaty - has finally reached its happy ending.

Goaty is now in his forever home at the Cedar Row Farms animal sanctuary near London, Ontario, after a wild few months and some bumps along the way.

Q104 and KenoraOnline broke Goaty’s story on July 18, after a Kenora resident returned home to find the friendly goat waiting at their front door on Jones Road.

He had already made his way and was escorted out of Naotkamegwanning First Nation in June, before he was found eating the grass in Kenora’s roundabout over 30 days later in July. He was then brought to the Jones Road farm in the hopes that that’s where he lived.

When no one claimed the goat after a post on social media, Kenora resident Amy Mosionier stepped up to help find Goaty’s forever home. She kept him briefly until a Kenora resident claimed the goat was theirs, and off they went.

However, Mosionier says that was a lie, and with help from Q104 and KenoraOnline, she was able to track Goaty down at a farm in Lac Lu.

Mosionier then decided to fundraise to bring Goaty to the goat sanctuary near London, with a barbecue at Pet Valu in August. Between the event, a 50/50 draw and a GoFundMe page, she says she raised nearly $3,000.

After an over $1,650 donation from Cedar Row Farms on top of Mosionier's funds, the sanctuary was able to get the help of Northern Horse Transport out of British Columbia to bring Goaty down to London, after two potential WestJet crates fell through. He arrived at his new home last week after a 2-day trip.

“A huge thank you to everybody who helped us, all of our supporters of the GoFundMe, barbecue and 50/50 draws and all of our sponsors. On behalf of myself and the farm, we greatly appreciate everyone’s help in getting Goaty to his new home!” said Mosionier.

The Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary has been running since 1999.
