GALLAGHER, Florence Irene (nee Sesula)
1932-2022
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Florence Irene Gallagher, passed away peacefully on Sept. 12, 2022, at the age of 90. She loved her family dearly and told us so, often. She was kind, compassionate, inspirational, gracious and giving. She had a great laugh, infectious spirit and a twinkle in her eyes. She was a woman of faith with a brave and resilient soul.
Florence was born on August 5, 1932, on the family farm near Waldeck, SK to Ernst and Emilie Sesula (nee Sauder). She married the love of her life, Thomas W Gallagher on October 15, 1955. Together they strengthened their corner of the world.
Florence graduated from Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw as a Registered Nurse in 1955 and began her career there. She then managed the OR at the Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw for almost two decades and continued her nursing career at the Plains Health Centre in Regina on the Neurological Sciences Unit. She loved being a nurse and many have shared that her care was fantastic. Florence found great joy in being outside tending her garden and watching the birds. She had a soft spot for animals and loved it when we would visit her with our pets. But her favourite times were family times.
Predeceased by her loving husband Tom in 2012, her parents Ernst (1960) and Emilie (1984) Sesula, and siblings Alfred, Gerty, Leo, Alvin, Edmund, Irma, Olga (infancy), Edward and Edwin (infancy), her mother and father-in-law Thomas L and Mary Gallagher and in-laws Bill, Lawrence, and Stan.
Her legacy lives on through her family: Teresa (Gaylord) Styles, Tom (Roberta) Gallagher, Sharon (Gary) Compton and Susan Gallagher (Alex Pozsonyi), all of Saskatoon. As well as 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Florence is survived by her sister Emma (Don) Hussey-Swift Current and brother Raymond (Marva) Sesula-Regina, as well as in-laws Lorraine Grondin-Biggar, Marie (Frank) Scheirich-Saskatoon, and Shirley (Ian) Mckay-Regina.
The family expresses a special thank you to: Dr. Rhonda Reiniger and Dr. Veronica Marcoux for their care and compassion; the staff at the Bentley Saskatoon for creating a lovely home for Mom and helping her transition through her illness; the caregivers at Seniors First and Saskatoon Health Region; the Palliative Care Team and the Royal University and City Hospitals. A special thank you to Sherbrooke Community Centre for their tender care at the end of Mom’s journey. You held us all through a very difficult time.
