OZOG

Our dearly loved father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, Cecil Frank Ozog passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Monday, September 12th, 2022.  Cecil lived a long, full life as he was 95 years old when he went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary in 2017.  They were together for 66 years, raised 7 children, had 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren with another one on the way.  He was also predeceased by his parents, Jack and Anne; sister, Joan; in-laws, James and Dorothy Rekunyk; son-in-law, Jay Burton; brothers-in-law: Pete and Paul Rekunyk, Dave Rollie and Gordon Gleim; sisters-in-law, Lena Wilson and Marg Rekunyk; uncle, John Smolak, his wife Czeslawa and their daughter Janet Adams.  Cecil will be lovingly remembered by his son, Larry; grandchildren, Amy (Pat) and Cassie (Eric);  son, Ron (Kathy); grandchildren, Allison and Robert; daughter, Janice Burton; daughter, Darlene Ozog; daughter, Lori (Terry) Hetke; grandchildren, Morgan and Jordan; son, Chris (MaryAnn); grandchildren: Talissa (Ging) Mclean and their children Lowen and Fern, Kaegan (Bailey) and their children Jaxon and Saige Ozog; and daughter, Pat (Andy) Kindiak; and grandchildren, Jake and Ava.

Cecil was born on March 20th, 1927 in Turza, Poland.  Just 3 days after he was born, Cecil’s father Jack left to make a new life for his family in Canada.  Ten years later Cecil was reunited with his father again in Canada.  It was January 1937 when his mother and only sister made the long journey to Canada.  They crossed the ocean on the “Duchess of York” and arrived in Halifax, NS at Pier 21.  They boarded a train, arrived in Saskatchewan and were reunited with Jack Ozog.  The family settled in Brownlee, SK where Jack was employed by CP Rail.  The family eventually moved to Moose Jaw where Cecil earned his welding and machining trade at Peacock High School.  One of his instructors was impressed with his ability and work ethic and sent him to Roman’s Machine Repair Co. where Cecil was hired.  He remained working there for several years, even after the name changed to Pascoe’s Machine Shop.  In January 1963, Cecil purchased Pascoe’s Machine Shop and expanded, then purchased a larger shop just down the street from the original shop.  He worked there well into his 80’s, owning it for 55 years.  The shop closed in December 2018 and later sold in April of 2019.

Cecil was an avid hockey, baseball and boxing fan, both as a spectator and as a participant.  Even as a young man with a large, growing family and a business to run, he enjoyed coaching his kids when he could.

There was not much time to travel once Cecil married, had a family and ran a business.  It wasn’t until he was in his fifties and sixties that he began traveling to Alberta and British Columbia.  He enjoyed his travels but to him there was “no place like home”.

We will miss this amazing, hardworking, dedicated man.  He was generous and courageous.  We were blessed to have had him in our lives for so long.  Cecil’s life – well lived – is complete.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Providence Place for caring for Cecil these past seven months.  As well that to the Home Care staff who helped care for Cecil prior to his move to Providence Place.  Thanks to the private care workers who worked the overnight shifts caring for Cecil this past year in his home.  These people, alongside family members, made it possible for Cecil and Mary to remain living in their own home for as long as they did.

A Time of Visitation for Family and Friends will be held on Wednesday, September 21st, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Rosedale Cemetery with Father Nestor Gregoire officiating.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Cecil’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

God Bless You
