Dryden’s youth have been learning about the importance of the forestry sector in northwestern Ontario and Canada this week, as Domtar helps celebrate National Forestry Week.
Domtar has partnered with the Earth Rangers to help youth recognize the forests and animals that surround Dryden and make the area their home, as well as the importance of conservation and sustainability – with two shows at The Centre.
The Earth Rangers is a kids’ conservation organization, dedicated to educating children and their families about biodiversity and sustainable behaviours, and staff visited the Centre on September 20 and 21 as Dryden schools came and participated in interactive learning sessions.
Domtar says over 500 students participated in the events, which included live animals, games, trivia and videos.
“Inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders is key to ensuring sustainable practices for the future,” says Marie Cyr, Domtar Dryden’s General Manager.
“We have been successfully operating in Dryden and the surrounding area for over 100 years and this accomplishment is a direct result of responsible forest management practices. Encouraging youth to follow this legacy is important to us.”
National Forest Week runs until September 24.
