Visitor restrictions are now in effect at Sioux Lookout’s Meno Ya Win Health Centre after two cases of COVID-19 were found over the weekend in two in-patients.

Staff say contact tracing is underway and anyone who is identified as a risk has been contacted.

“We have processes in place to provide the safest possible environment for our patients, staff and physicians. Our priority is to see this outbreak contained quickly,” says President and CEO, Douglas Semple.

Effective immediately, the hospital says visitation will be limited to two designated visitors per patient, and staff are following increased cleaning measures in response to the outbreak.

A COVID-19 outbreak is declared by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care after at least two cases are found in a specified area within a 14-day period, where both cases could have reasonably acquired their infection within that setting.
