Four Sandy Lake First Nation residents are facing a number of charges after police seized a variety of drugs and firearms after two search warrants in the community.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service says officers seized cocaine, oxycodone and hydromorphone, as well as three firearms and Canadian currency, with support from the OPP.

As a result, 45-year-old Miriam Mamakeesic of Sandy Lake is facing charges of:

- Trafficking a controlled substance,
- Possession of property obtained by crime,

45-year-old Billy Jack ‘BJ’ Kakegamick of Sandy Lake is facing charges of:

- Trafficking a controlled substance,
- Possession of property obtained by crime,

25-year-old Sylvian Fiddler of Sandy Lake is facing charges of:

- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (three counts),

46-year-old Carey Fiddler of Sandy Lake is facing charges of:

- Possession for the purpose of trafficking (three counts),
- Possession of property obtained by crime,
- Careless storage of a firearm (three counts),

NAPS says Carey Fiddler was held for bail earlier this month, while Mamakeesic, Kakegamick and Sylvian Fiddler were each released on an Undertaking with conditions and are set to appear in courts on November 7.

Sandy Lake First Nation is located roughly 220 km northeast of Red Lake in the Kenora district.
