Bryon Hamilton is bringing his campaign forward regarding his run to become the next mayor of Portage la Prairie.

Hamilton, who was born and raised in Portage, says it is sad to see the city's current state compared to the one he grew up in.

"The crime, the lack of activities for kids and stuff here in town. It's very disappointing to see what it was when I grew up and what it is now. So, I want to throw my hat in the ring, and see what I can do about it."

Hamilton spoke about his number one priority concerning policy if he were to be elected.

"Crime is obviously top of mind, and talking with individuals and stuff is top of mind for everyone. I'm the general manager of our Boston Pizza, and we've had our fair share of incidents in the last few months and to the point where, you know what, I just decided, you know? Let's see if we can do something about it."

The Ecole Crescentview alum notes he would also like to tackle other issues, including lake rejuvenation, senior care, activities for youth and city beautification.

"I've always been interested in politics and stuff. I've worked with hundreds of people. Lots of business leaders and stuff. I feel that running a business is running a business, whether it's a lemonade stand, a big restaurant, a supermarket, or the city. I mean, you can only spend so much, and you're restricted to what the tax base brings in, but I really think that there are lots of areas we can improve on," continues Hamilton. "I hate to keep beating it, but it's crime, we got to do something about the crime here in town, so major focus on crime."

Election day is set for October 26.
