Arthur Molodowic
1938 - 2022
On September 8, 2022 at 9:05 am Arthur Molodowic took his final breath on this earth with his family by his side, telling him that we would be alright. This is exactly what dad wanted to hear. He was 84 years old.
Art, as many people know him, was born on August 14, 1938 to Joseph and Helen Molodowic. The family had modest means and often dad would talk about going for days with only meals of cabbage soup. Dad loved growing up in the country. He played baseball in school and had quite the arm. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing with nephews, friends and eventually his own children.
Art and Cara, who were married to each other for over 50 years, met as neighbors and first became friends. Their interest in each other became stronger and on October 17, 1970 they became husband and wife. Together they had 4 children whom they raised on the same property where Arthur was born.
Art worked for Nelson River Highway construction for 40 years. With the exception of a few years, he was away from home during the week and would return home Friday evening. We can still smell the damp field air and hear the squeals of delight as dad pulled into the yard in his Dodge pickup truck at the end of the week. “Dad’s home!!!!!!”. There would always be a special gift behind his seat, usually a big bag of candy for all of us to share.
Dad experienced many tragedies in his life. Big tragedies that would break most people. Through every heartache and tragedy Dad's dedication to his family became stronger and more determined. He put his family first and no matter how tough things became, he would always find something to be proud of. Camping trips every other weekend to Lynch’s Point, Saturday drives into town, four-wheeler rides in the country and, in his retirement, enjoying his home in MacGregor with Cara.
Without knowing it, Dad was creating memories and traditions that we, as his children would carry with us and introduce to our own families, his grandchildren. Dad loved hearing that his 3 grandsons enjoyed the simple things in life. He also loved knowing that his grandsons could eat a good solid meal. A strong act of loving parenting was a freezer full of food and a barbecue dinner every weekend.
Dad's strong opinions were not everyone's cup of tea and dad was okay with that. We are not put on this earth to conform… we are here to leave our mark.
In 2018, Art and Cara moved to a small apartment in Portage-la-Prairie, where they lived like newly-weds until his final illness. Visits from family remained his greatest joy.
In addition to his loving wife, Cara, Art is survived by his children, Aaron Molodowic, Carmen Molodowic (Leo Dufault) their son, Harley, Amber (Tom) Rochon and their two sons, Liam and Eliot, sister Helen Rands, along with nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his mother and father and son, Preston.
‘Love you Dad’
