After losing their first game of the SJHL Showcase Monday night, the Red Wings were up against the Battlefords North Stars to finish things off. This game would only get worse the longer it went on, and the Red Wings would drop an 8-0 shutout loss.

 

To begin with, Mathieu Gautier had been suspended two games for his knee on knee collision in the game prior. Both teams dressed seven defencemen for the game, and the first seven minutes or so were fairly even until Eduard Wruck took a high sticking call in the midst of puck battle behind his net.

 

On the powerplay, the North Stars would score just 21 seconds in on a Keiton Klein onetimer. The North Stars would pick up another from Kian Bell on a breakaway before they'd take a double minor for kneeing from Zane Florence.

 

Now the Red Wings with the man advantage, a shot at the blueline was sent into the shin pads of Jordan Grill, who hustled after the loose puck on a breakaway of his own for the shorthanded goal. The North Stars would add one more from Wilson Steele at even strength in the dying seconds of the period, and the Red Wings were down heavily off the bat.

 

After 1: Red Wings 0 - 4 North Stars, shots 12-11 North Stars

 

The shots were surprisingly close in the first period, but the second period started with the Red Wings slowly falling behind in that department as well.The Red Wings would even get a brief 5-on-3, but they couldn't solve Josh Kotai in net. 

 

The North Stars would add Klein's second of the game, and then a powerplay goal from a Colby Bear onetimer extend the lead to 6-0 with less then floor to play in the period.

 

After 2: Red Wings 0 - 6 North Stars, shots 16-7 North Stars in the period, 27-19 North Stars overall

 

The third period saw a another onset of Red Wings in the box, but the North Stars wouldn't score again until nearly the halfway mark of the period thanks to Easton Rask.

 

With less than five minutes left in the game, the North Stars would  get their last man advantage of the night and they'd score on it thanks to Jordan Gibbs. 

 

FINAL: Red Wings 0 - 8 North Stars, shots 11-8 North Stars in the period, 38-27 North Stars overall
