The Truth and Reconciliation Mural
Categories

A new mural, titled Zoongide,  was unveiled Thursday on the southeast wall of the BDO Centre featuring seven sacred teachings.

This mural came to life after the Urban Indigenous Strategy applied for a $10,000 grant from the Government of Canada's 'Canadian Heritage National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Community Project Application.'

Indigenous Community Coordinator Assistant Jacinda Houle expresses her excitement for this mural to be finished.

"It was really important because, September 30th is National Truth and Reconciliation Day, and  the whole purpose of this mural is to represent residential school survivors and the children that never made it home. So, I'm glad we got it all finished and ready for today."

Houle says she is proud to see the mural as she knows a lot of hard work went into this .

"It was quite the process, and you know, seeing it come together, it was such a beautiful process. It made me feel happy, and it gave me some sense of comfort knowing that I finally got to do this when it's been a goal of mine for a while."

Houle gave a shoutout to Annie Beach and her sister, Jaida Houle, who worked painting the mural over the last couple of weeks even as the temperatures dropped.
