Robert Ebers Baker
Aug. 20, 1929 - Sept. 30, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Baker. He was born and raised in Kenora. The Lake of the Woods and area offered him much of the lifestyle he enjoyed throughout his life. He worked at the local paper mill for over 40 years, enjoying many of the people he worked with and friendships he made.
He was active in local sports as a player and coach, in baseball and hockey. He was a sportswriter for the Winnipeg Tribune on the Kenora beat. He was a devoted Scout leader and all- round outdoorsman, and nature and animal lover. In his later years, curling in the men’s league was one of his great passions, also watching the Blue Jays and European cycling events. An avid motion and still photographer, he leaves behind a treasure trove of images that date back almost a century. A skilled gardener, he never missed a planting season. He derived great pleasure in sharing his harvest with friends and family.
Predeceased by his parents May and John Baker, first wife Margaret, daughter Colleen, brother Ray, foster brother Harold, and sisters Florence and Darlene. He leaves behind his wife Bernice, of 63 years, son Robin (Pauline), daughter Heather (Mark), son-in-law Rick, grandchildren Mathieu (Tryna), Brock, Danielle and Jose-Anne (Brennan), and 4 great- grandchildren. Also survived by brother John and sister Dolores.
His friends were important to him and he was so grateful for the kindness he received over the past months. Our family would like to send a sincere thank you to all the health care professionals for their care throughout Bob’s life and especially during these past months.
His priorities throughout his 93 years were faith and family. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on October 14, 2022 at 2:00pm, at the First Baptist Church (2nd St S), Kenora.
