Candidates in the upcoming municipal election will get their chance to share their thoughts and ideas on a number of issues in Kenora next week.
Kenora Moving Forward (KFM) will be hosting an all-candidates forum, where those seeking election will discuss their approach and commitment to creating safe spaces in Kenora if elected.
A moderated discussion will shed on Kenora’s housing crisis, relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, ensuring the safety of Kenora’s most vulnerable citizens, harm reduction/safe consumption site, and representing diversity in Council’s work.
“As temperatures drop, community groups like Kenora Moving Forward are increasingly concerned with how the City Council and community as a whole respond to those experiencing homelessness and/or precarious housing,” said Marlene Elder, who is part of KMF’s management team.
“With cold weather comes deeper desperation and we feel that the lack of affordable, available housing and other supports for our most vulnerable community members continues to fall off the radar of our city leaders.”
The KFM all-candidates forum will take place on Tuesday, October 11 at the Ne-Chee Event Centre at 5:00 p.m.
The public is invited to attend, but are also asked to respect the format and intentions of the evening so that maximum time is given to each candidate to express their ideas.
Tonight - the Kenora & District Chamber of Commerce will host an Open House with council candidates at Seven Generations. Doors open at 6:00pm. Tomorrow will see the mayoral all-candidates forum at the same location at 6:30pm.
