Mayoral candidate Idris Adelakun believes that a lot of change must happen to make Winnipeg a better place to live and he feels up to the challenge if elected.

Adelakun received a Ph.D. in Leadership Organizational Management from Carolina University, USA, and is a professional engineer and project manager in Winnipeg.

"I decided to run for mayor because I wanted a city that works for everyone," says Adelakun. "When I was thinking of that a few months ago in terms of homelessness, addictions, and mental health, I think we can improve on that."

Homelessness and Crime

"When it comes to homelessness, the first thing I want to do is get an 800 housing unit. We'll come up with new structures but use some existing structures as well."

Adelakun says he would also change bi-laws to help build the units faster.

"My plan in terms of crime-prevention strategy is to allow police to focus more on what is important. We need to make use of our police officers because we don't have enough right now."

Roads and Budget

Adelakun believes that road work needs to be prioritized better.

"I want to change the budget to priority-based budgeting and focus on what is important. My philosophy as a professional engineer, if you're able to do something very well once, then why do you have to do it every year."

The mayoral candidate says he'll only promise what he knows he can accomplish.

"We have to change things if we really want to improve."
