Dryden and Sioux Lookout residents will be able to hear more from their future council members tonight, as each community hosts an All Candidate Debate ahead of the municipal election.

The Dryden District Chamber of Commerce has organized Dryden’s events tonight at The Centre, beginning at 6 p.m. A live stream will also be made available through their Facebook Page.

Someone new will sit in the Mayor’s seat for the next four years in Dryden after Greg Wilson announced he would not be seeking re-election. Councillor and former Chief of Police Shayne MacKinnon is running for the role, against former forester Jack B. Harrison.

Councillors Martin MacKinnon and Michelle Price have decided to run again and will be vying for one seat each out of the six available. New candidates for council include Anne Berrey, David Burch, Catherine Kiewning, Bill Latham, Ritch Noel, Brad Pareis, and Bryan Tardiff.

In Sioux Lookout, residents have organized an All Candidates Debate at the Legion from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., The Legion has donated their hall for the event, and a donation basket will be available.

Doug Lawrance has been re-acclaimed as Sioux Lookout’s Mayor as he was the only person to file nomination papers. This will be his third term after defeating Dennis Leney for the seat in 2014.

Running for council are current councillors Joe Cassidy, Cory Lago and Joyce Timpson. They will be up against new nominees Reece Van Breda, Joan Cosco, Dan Rioux, Brent Wesley, Luc Beaulne and Manuela Michelizzi. Six seats are offered for council.

Advanced voting begins in Dryden on October 14, while voting begins in Sioux Lookout on October 17. The Municipal election will wrap up on October 24.
