Residents across the Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake areas will soon have an easier time getting specialized healthcare services in their home communities.

The Provincial Government has announced they’ve approved the creation of a new Ontario Health Term serving those three areas in northwestern Ontario, called the Kiiwetinoong Healing Waters Ontario Health Team.

The government says Ontario’s Health Teams work together to provide coordinated care services with records and care plans being shared between providers, offer 24/7 access to system navigation services to ensure patients see an easier transition, and create efficiencies throughout our healthcare system.

“Our government is adding Ontario Health Teams to serve the North, understand the unique health needs across the region and provide higher standards of care,” explains Kenora – Rainy River MPP, Minister of Northern Development and Minister of Indigenous Affairs, Greg Rickford.

“I am confident that these investments will lead to better health outcomes for Northerners as we move forward with our transformative plan to build an integrated health care system centred on the needs of patients."

Elsewhere in the region, the Northwestern Health Unit is part of the Rainy River District Ontario Health Team with 12 other local organizations. There’s also the All Nations Health Partners Health Team in Kenora, with 15 regional agencies.

Ontario also approved new health teams in Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.
