Police are investigating after several people were seriously injured in stabbings over the weekend.
The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that they were called to a total of four stabbing-related incidents on Saturday and Sunday with at least one person requiring surgery.
The first incident occurred at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday in the area of Ellice Ave. and Sherbrook St.
Officers located a 31-year-old male victim suffering from upper body injuries described as superficial. He was transported to hospital in stable condition and treated for his injuries. It is believed several suspects approached the victim in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street, attacked him with an unknown object, and robbed him of his property before fleeing on foot. The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
Just 10 minutes later police were called to the 200 block of Stella Walk for another stabbing.
Officers located a 19-year-old male victim suffering from upper body injuries and provided emergency medical care using a chest seal. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition, where he remains after surgery. His injuries are described as non-life-threatening. It is believed the suspect approached the victim in the 800 block of Main Street and stabbed him in an unprovoked manner before fleeing on foot. The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
At 2 a.m. police were called just a couple blocks away to the 200 block of Austin St. for a report of a woman who had been stabbed.
Officers located a 35-year-old female suffering from a stab wound to her lower body. She was transported in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. No arrests have been made, and the Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
On Sunday at 1 a.m. police were called to the 100 block of Kate St. for a report of a stabbed man.
Officers located a 21-year-old male suffering upper-body injuries as a result of being stabbed. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable. No arrests have been made, and the victim declined further police assistance.
