Fort la Reine School students and staff had a memorable day on Thursday to acknowledge reaching a goal they had set for their school.
The pupils were challenged by their Physical Education Teacher, Brett Calder, to raise $300 for the Terry Fox Foundation in honour of Fox's Marathon of Hope.
Students ended up squashing their goal and bringing in $577 for cancer research. In return for reaching their target, they were allowed to roll straight out of bed Thursday morning and go to school in their pyjamas and snack on some popcorn.
Calder explains that this was the first year that the school had challenged students in this way for cancer research.
"We're really quite pleasantly surprised, and everyone was really excited to have a pyjama day."
The educator says he is very proud of his school for this effort, noting everybody is affected by cancer, and he is ecstatic Fort la Reine could contribute to future studies and treatments.
"We're very happy with how it turned out."
Calder notes that It was a great celebration of the student's efforts and tremendous to see so many smiles as well as mouths full of popcorn at school.
