Aldean Glass
February 28, 1934 - October 25, 2022

Aldean Glass (nee Smith) was born on February 28, 1934, and passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the age of 88. Aldean had a tremendous desire for knowledge all her life and was passionate in using that knowledge to further learning for her children, grandchildren, and her students.  Her own education began at Colorado School in Pilger for Grades 1 to 10, followed by Grades 11 and 12 at the Ursuline Academy in Bruno.  She attended Teachers College in 1953, and did University and Correspondence courses and summer school to earn her Teaching Certificate Standard A.  Aldean’s teaching career began in 1953 at Stearns in Humboldt and was followed by stops in Candiac and Strasbourg.  It was while she was in Candiac that she met Edward Glass whom she married.  They had three children, Glen, Marlys and Jansine.  She was a strong woman and while raising her family continued to teach, something not many women were doing at the time, first at Marian High in Regina, and finally superannuating from Christ the King in Shaunavon.  Aldean was an artist, and when she would put one of her art pieces up for grabs, everyone fought to get it.  She sang soprano in her church choirs and was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church.  She did outreach in her parish of St. John in Saskatoon right up until the COVID pandemic shut all programming down.  She loved gardening, and always had a large crop of vegetables in Shaunavon.  In recent years, she helped a friend in Saskatoon grow sunflowers.  She was renowned in Shaunavon for her huge, tasty cinnamon buns, and in Saskatoon, she became known for her scrumptious butter tarts.  She loved to read and was borrowing books from the library right up to her final illness. She is survived by her children:  Glen and Jane (Pasiechnyk) Glass, Marlys Glass, and Jansine (Glass) and Brian Broberg, and their children, and by her brother Tom Smith and his wife Lilian and their children, as well as by her sister-in-law, Joan Smith and her children.   Aldean was predeceased by her parents, John and Genevieve Smith, her brother Kem Smith, and her husband, Edward Glass. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday November 3, 2022 at St. Paul’s Co-Cathedral (720 Spadina Crescent East).  Rite of Committal to follow at St. John’s Columbarium (816 Spadina Crescent East).  Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.  To share memories of Aldean or send condolences please visit www.mourningglory.ca
